To say that Iceland is a spectacularly beautiful island is bordering on an understatement. So varied and extreme is its scenery that there are many ways from which to enjoy it. It is a photographers paradise.

Our Iceland photography tour travels away from Reykjavik to the far south east coast where a more undiscovered region awaits. Travel by 4x4 to reach geysers, sandy coloured peaks and glacial national parks.

The combination of beautiful seasonal colours, mild autumn light, and less visitors makes August a perfect time to travel to Iceland.

Arriving into Reykjavik, journey onto Iceland’s south east coast and into the mountains. Some of the highlights of this trip include exploring western Iceland's Lava Waterfalls, colourful rhyolite mountains in Landmannalaugar, black and brown hyaloclastite mountains, exploring Vatnajökull national park with its glaciers and floating icebergs.

With a key focus on photography throughout, we have selected the best areas of this magnificent and very photogenic country. This tour will take advantage of great light when presented, early mornings or evenings, and keeping an eye out for favourable conditions to photograph the Northern Lights. The schedule of the trip may be rearranged for the best weather conditions and light at each location, so be prepared to be flexible.

In addition, the tour is accompanied throughout by Tim Mannakee, his work has been published in newspapers, magazines, books and other media around the world. He was also named as a Finalist in Travel Photographer of the Year 2013 in 2 categories: Black & White single image and Vanishing Tribes Portfolio.

All levels are welcome except absolute beginners. A good understanding of your camera in essential. Non-photographers can also join with their partners however the days will be focussed around photography.

There will be some climbing over rocks by the waterfalls and some hill walking but nothing too strenuous.

To photograph the landscape and wildlife in South Iceland. To develop skills using filters and a tripod. To work on composition and understanding light. To use tripods for long exposure of water. To improve camera craft using different lenses and settings for maximum creativity. We will shoot sunrise and sunset whenever possible so some days may be long.

Day 1

Fly London to Reykjavik
Your first feeling of Iceland starts right at the airport as the Leifur Eiriksson Keflavik airport is really small. Your driver will be waiting for you in the arriving hall, welcoming you to Iceland. You will then be driven for around 45 minutes to your hotel in Reykjavik city centre.

Please note that Iceland is a country at the mercy of extreme weather conditions which may mean that your travel itinerary needs changing. This will typically be decided quite last minute and will be at the discretion of your experienced local guide. It may be that we may have to change the order of your sightseeing in order to avoid any unpredicted weather conditions but we will do our best to ensure all sightseeing on the itinerary is included and that key sights are not missed.

You will be staying at Alda Hotel Reykjavik

Day 2

Reykjavik to Hofn
This morning take your scheduled Eagle Air flight from Reykjavik Airport across Iceland to Hofn, where you first taste of nature will be Vatnajokull National Park.

You will be staying at Hali Country Hotel

Day 3

Jokulsarlon Lagoon
Today visit Jokulsarlon lagoon, a spectacular glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs and considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland. The lagoon is a deep bright blue and some of the icebergs are as big as houses. As chunks of ice break off from the icebergs they flow through the lagoon and out on to the nearby black sand beach.

You will be staying at Hali Country Hotel

Day 4

Skaftafell and Vatnajokull National Parks
Skaftafell National Park and Vatnajokull National Park recently united to form the biggest national park in Europe and boast truly unbelievable scenery.

The scenery around Skaftafell is full of stark contrasts. Various glacial tongues are flanked by jagged mountains, with the glacier-topped peak of Hvannadalshnjúkur, Iceland's highest peak, standing at 2109m above sea level.

From the visitors centre a two hour walk takes you to Svartifoss, the ''Black Waterfall". The falls are surrounded by dark lava columns from which the name comes.

You will also walk to and photograph Svinafellsjokull glacier.

You will be staying at Hali Country Hotel

Day 5

Hofn to Hella
Today leave the Vatnajokull National Park area and head along the south shore to Hella where your hotel for the next three nights is located. You will stop to photograph the glaciers of Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull on the way.

You will be staying at Hotel Ranga

Day 6

South shore
Private tour with a luxury vehicle. The south shore of Iceland is well known for its beauty. Waterfalls that will make your jaw drop and moody black sand beaches with crashing white-capped waves. You will photograph Reynisdrangar, basalt sea stacks in the North-Atlantic Ocean. Legend says that the stacks originated when two trolls dragged a ship to land unsuccessfully and when daylight broke they became needles of rock.

You will also stop to photograph Seljalandsfoss waterfall: The water in Seljalandsfoss flows from the famous glacier/volcano Eyjafjallajokull that famously caused the ash cloud in 2009.

Time permitting you will visit Skogarfoss waterfall, a huge falls that thunder down into a small canyon.

Hella is located in the South of Iceland, a community which flourished in the mid 20th century when many of the rivers in the South-western lowlands were bridged allowing inhabitants could make a living from agriculture and tourism. Hella is often visited as it is a perfect spot for viewing the Northern Lights.

You will be staying at Hotel Ranga

Day 7

Full day private super-jeep tour of Landmannalgaur in the remote highlands.

On our way to Landmannalaugar we drive past Hekla volcano before deflating the tyres and leaving the tarmac behind as we drive across lava fields, through rivers, and across a moon-like landscape. Landmannalaugar is a spectacular area of great contrasts with black ridges and colourful mountains of green, red, yellow and orange. Today's photographic subjects will include the crater lakes of Blahylur or "Blue Puddle", Ljotipollur or "Ugly Puddle", Haifoss waterfall and Granni, Hjalparfoss or "Help's Falls" on the river Fossa, Frostastadavaln Lake, and Sigoldugljufur canyon.

You will be staying at Hotel Ranga

Day 8

Enjoy a private tour of Thorsmork in a super-jeep.

Surrounded by high mountains, majestic glaciers and birch woods, Thorsmork valley is a truly amazing sight. The only way to drive into Thorsmork is in a specially modified all terrain vehicle as we'll need to drive over rugged landscape and ford glacial rivers to get to the end of the valley.

After, travel to Gigjokull, a glacial tongue that drains from the famous Eyjafjallajokull glacier. Gigjokull (Crater glacier) is slowly retreating and has formed a lagoon in front of the glacier. There will be the option for some hiking into the canyon of Stakkholtsgja. The canyon is around 2km long and very narrow. In the end of the canyon is a beautiful waterfall. Hiking around Basar with over 170 species of plants, mosses and lichen.

Gljufrabui is another small waterfall close by and is interesting to see. Continue onto Reykjavik where you will overnight.

You will be staying at Alda Hotel Reykjavik
