Antarctic Ross Sea Cruise
The ultimate Antarctic Voyage to the very heart of 'The White Continent'. The Ross Sea is one of the most remote regions on earth and is only accessible for two months each year (Jan & Feb), when the ice thaws. It is the historic gateway to Antarctica, first discovered by Sir James Clark Ross in 1842, it was to the Ross Sea region that many of the most famous explorers and adventurers came, including Scott, Shackleton and Amundsen.
Vestiges of their passing remain, in the form of the historic huts. All voyages to this region incorporate visits to a combination of these fascinating time capsules, ice permitting. The Ross Sea region is also the breeding ground for millions of Adelie and Emperor penguins, which you will undoubtedly encounter.
Some Ross Sea Expeditions include The Sub Antarctic Islands, including Auckland, Campbell and Macquarie Islands, each a veritable paradise for naturalist enthusiasts.
Voyages to The Ross Sea region of Antarctica approach the continent from Australasia, with embarkation and disembarkation either from New Zealand or Hobart, Tasmania. These voyages are longer than those to the Antarctic Peninsula accessible from South America, typically 25 days.
Given that there is only a handful of expeditionary voyages to this region each season, you are strongly advised to book well in advance.
