Known as the Golden Triangle for its notorious links to narcotics, the area around Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand are home to several hill tribes. The green lush scenery makes walking a delight but, for those that prefer, elephant treks are available as well. It is possible to venture into Myanmar for a day or to continue a journey into Laos and take a boat down the Mekong River to Luang Prabang.
