Hacienda Zuleta is a thriving working farm owned by the descendants of the former Ecuadorian president Galo Plaxa Lasso. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Andean mountains, the fertile valley bountifully supports its inhabitants and is sited as a model for farming and land use in Ecuador and all of the Andes.
Dating back to the 16th century, Hacienda Zuleta maintains many of its original colonial features. Each of the 15 charming guest rooms has a garden or mountain view and some provide access to beautiful private gardens, terraces or courtyards. All rooms have a welcoming fireplace and are furnished with antiques, family photographs and hand embroidered linens. Adjoining family rooms are available upon request.
The farm itself produces a broad range of products including milk and cheese from its large Holstein-Fresian dairy herd. Barley, quinoa, wheat, and organic herbs, fruits & vegetables are grown for use in preparation of their delicious cuisine.
Guests are welcome to visit the hand-embroidery workshop, trout farm and Zuleta's cheese factory where 11 varieties of semi-aged cheeses, cream cheese, yoghurt and cream are produced. Guests can also visit the Condor Huasi Project that works for the rehabilitation of the majestic Andean Condor.
Hacienda Zuleta is perhaps most famous for its horses and riding programmes. Riding has been a Plaza family tradition for over one hundred years, and today Zuleta reflects this equestrian affinity by boasting one of the most exclusive stables in Ecuador.
