Greenland - When to Go

Greenland is dominated by the second largest ice sheet in the world (after Antarctica) and the land is fairly inaccessible for most of the year.  So the best time to visit Greenland is during the summer.

The months

Between the months from June to September the landscape comes to life.  For just a few months what is predominantly a white landscape turns into lush greenery with flowers in bloom, colourful berries and trout filled rivers.

Temperature

Despite the summer, temperatures rarely rise above 10 degrees centigrade in the north, and perhaps to 20 degrees in the south between June and August.  Due to the exceptional air quality in Greenland and the low levels of moisture in the air, it is possible to see for miles with excellent clarity.

how to get around

There are no roads that connect the coasts so travel around Greenland is only by sea or air.   The most fascinating way to travel is by small expedition ships which allow for some fantastic experiences.
