Malaria-free family holiday

12 days

from £3,899pp

We know that a great holiday for children means an even better holiday for parents. Few things are as wonderful as seeing the look on your childs face when standing in the tracks of a lion or coming face to face with exotic fish whilst snorkelling.

  • The African bush and the island of Mauritius in one fantastic trip
  • Exceptional game viewing and tropical beaches
  • Family friendly, first class accommodation with loads to keep the kids happy
  • Bush skills, treasure hunts, swimming and crab hunting

Start off with a Big Five safari in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve, one of South Africa’s largest reserves. Aside from family game drives, there are treasure hunts, bush bumbles and a whole host of activities tailored to suit each child’s age.

Onward to Mauritius, a beautiful island with more than just its tropical beaches on offer. Kids can enjoy a great programme of fun, from beach and water activities to a mini chef experience. We can even arrange a trip in a submarine.

Day 2

Travel from Johannesburg to Madikwe

One of South Africa's largest game reserves, Madikwe Game Reserve is home to the Big Five and has a healthy African wild dog population. Bordering Botswana, which lies to its north, the reserve is one of the best run in the country. Some 8000 animals including lion, elephant, cheetah, rhino and buffalo were introduced to the reserve during one of the biggest wildlife translocation projects in the world, "Operation Noah" some 20 years ago and have flourished in this unique environment.

A Typical Day on Safari
Explore the Madikwe Reserve, found on the edge of the arid Kalahari region. Richly diverse and packed with wildlife, this area is a wonderful place to spot an array of impressive animals, including resident wild dog. Game drives run twice a day, with afternoon drives extending into the night, allowing for the spotting of - often elusive - nocturnal species. As the sun sets, stop for sundowners amidst this magnificent landscape. For a different experience, set out on foot and take part in a guided walking safari. Learn about the nuances of the bush and spot the tell-tale clues that big game leaves behind.

Day 3

Activities at Tuningi
Spend time exploring the vast malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve. Standing on what was once farming land, this diverse reserve now supports an array of wildlife. Take morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, led by highly trained guides.

Three hunting packs of wild dogs roam this landscape of rock-strewn hills, open savannah and rich bushveld, as well as numerous larger mammals. These include leopards, cheetahs, lions, giraffes, rhinos, elephants and many other species. The varied topography of the reserve means that there is a diverse range of animal species, including more than 340 types of birds.

There are also a number of activities for children of all ages. These include treasure hunts, t-shirt painting, clay building and bush memory games. Older children will get an activity book to record wildlife sightings, whilst evenings in the boma can be spent toasting marshmallows on the fire.
