Trading Places - along the Silk Route |
2011 marks my 17th year at Steppes as the Central Asia specialist. In that time I have visited every country in Central Asia, crossed nearly every recognisable border (and some that aren't), trekked in the Tien Shan mountains, journeyed along the Silk Road and stayed in every type of accommodation from modern hotels to the humble nomadic yurt.
While I have witnessed first-hand many changes, I am heartened that the overall ethnic culture remains and that the architectural splendours, in many cases, have been restored to their former glory.
Most of our journeys are tailor made, but we do have a few escorted departures along the Silk Route. For those with a spirit of adventure it remains a truly fascinating area of the world.
