Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve

Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve

Tucked away in a pristine location along the riverbank of Rio Pastaza, Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve offers one of the most enriching lodging experiences in the Amazon Rainforest.

The lodge resides near the Peruvian border in Achuar territory. Its remote setting, atleast ten days hiking distance from the closest town, means access is all part of the adventure with a light airplane journey from Quito and a subsequent canoe ride along Rio Pastaza.

A raised boardwalk connects 19 palm thatched cabins all skillfully constructed by local Achuar craftsmen around the edge of an ephemeral lagoon. Each cabin provides en-suite facilities and is fully screened with a spacious and well-ventilated interior. Hot water and electricity is provided using solar energy. Hammocks are strung on each furnished balcony with a stunning view across the lake. Traditional Ecuadorian meals inspired by Achuar recipes are served family style in the mainhouse, which also comprises a bar and communal living area.

Activities at Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve are not fixed, allowing for itineraries to be suitably tailored by an experienced guide. Typical interests include bird watching, with early morning visits to the local clay lick, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and nature trails into the rainforest. Visits to the local Achuar community are an obvious highlight with overnight camping being an option for those adventurous enough.
