Our Journey Idea to Ecuador encompasses many of the highlights on offer in this South America country. You can visit Quito, the capital and Cuenca to the south, both beautiful UNESCO World Heritage cities with their ornate buildings and cathedrals and the amazing ecosystem of the Amazon Rainforest with its fascinating flora and fauna. You can stay in a traditional hacienda, walk round a volcanic crater lake or visit one of the local markets in Otavalo to really experience Ecuadorian life.
Head south to the friendly city of Loja, on the edge of the dramatic Podocarpus National Park, rich in bird life and one of the last major habitats of the Spectacled Bear as well as the picturesque Vilcabamaba Valley which is famed for the longevity of the local people. Another highlight is travelling along the Pacific Coast an area you will see very few tourists. You will find laid back fishing villages, friendly locals and the diverse Machalilla National Park with its fascinating marine life, dry tropical forest and archaeological ruins.
