Our specialist, Oliver Lever, has recently returned from an extensive holiday to Colombia. He visited some of the better known destinations including Cartagena, Bogota and the Coffee Region but also off the beaten track areas such as Popayan, also known as the White City, and the archaeological gem of San Agustin, both to the south of the country. Colombia has instantly become a firm favourite thanks in part to the huge diversity on offer but also because the people are some of the friendliest and most helpful in South America. Take a look at Oliver’s blog from his recent trip.
Colombia is finally shaking off its reputation and is fast becoming one of the top ‘up and coming’ destinations in Latin America. Colombia is a beautiful and incredibly diverse country that will truly captivate the intrepid traveller.
Now that it is opening up, there is so much to offer those willing to head off the beaten track. Find secluded palm fringed beaches in the Tayrona National Park, the towering Los Nevados and Coconucos mountains, impressive colonial architecture in the cities of Cartagena and Villa de Leyva, ruined pre-Colombian settlements and extraordinary flora and fauna. With an ever expanding infrastructure, visitors can stay in chic boutique hotels, Amazon lodges, colonial haciendas and remote coffee fincas.
