Our specialist, Oliver Lever, has explored many of the highlights of Chile over recent years and is continually seeking out new and off-the-beaten track destinations. Oliver has recently returned from a fascinating journey to the Aisen region of Chilean Patagonia, taking in the spectacular glaciers, forests, lakes and rivers reached via the renowned Carretera Austral, stretching some 1,000 km from north to south.
Chile truly is a land of extremes in terms of geography and climate. To the north lies the Atacama, the driest desert in the world, while the south ranges from the snow-capped volcanoes and crystal-clear waters of the Chilean Lake District to majestic fjords and glaciers of Patagonia and windswept steppes in the country’s southernmost territory, Tierra del Fuego. Chile is a gateway to Antarctica while also boasting a number of fascinating subtropical islands in the Pacific Ocean. The fertile heartland, meanwhile, features a coast and countryside, which resembles the Mediterranean.
Explore the vibrant capital, Santiago or the wineries of the Central Valley. Venture into the unspoilt wilderness of the National Parks, from the UNESCO world biosphere of the Torres del Paine in southern Patagonia to the glittering glacial waters of the Lake District or marvel at the mammoth stone figures of Easter Island.
