Caiman Ecological Refuge
Caiman Ecological Refuge is a thriving cattle ranch also specialising in ecotourism and nature conservation in the province of Mato Grosso do Sul, Southern Pantanal. The wildlife on offer in this region is utterly spectacular with over bird life a particular draw. There are over 350 species of bird including the hyacinth macaw, jabiru stork and the king vulture, as well as anteaters, marsh deer, caiman, monkeys and jaguar also a possibility. Activities at Caiman Ecological Refuge include, canoeing, horseback riding, trekking, 4WD safaris and nocturnal safari tours.
The refuge offers 14 ensuite rooms and suites arranged between two individual lodges dotted throughout the ranch. Baiazinha Lodge offers 6 double rooms and is set on the shores of a small lake, whilst Cordilheira Lodge which is built on stilts adjacent to a sprawling forest, offers 8 double rooms. Although architecturally different, each lodge offers the same standards of comfort and service with a bar, restaurant, and pool.
Please note that from January to June and September to December, Caiman Lodge operates as a private home with all rooms reserved for single groups of up to 10 or 12 guests. The lodge reverts to individual reservations from mid-June to mid-September and on all national holidays with packages running from Thursday to Sunday or Sunday to Thursday.
