Mama Ruisa
Mama Ruisa is located in the charming Santa Teresa district of Rio, set on a hillside with panoramic views of Rio, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay. The French owner has converted a former aristocratic home into a simple yet elegant property with just 7 bedrooms. The rooms are light and white-washed with flashes of colour in the use of fabrics, interesting pieces of art and various bric-a-brac items. Many original features have been retained; high ceilings, tall wooden shutters, stained glass ceiling, wrought iron verandas all complimented with stylish and elegant French furnishings. Some rooms have access to a small terrace where breakfast will usually be served and a great spot top sip a passion fruit caipirinha in the evening.
The service is relaxed and personal, the walled gardens and swimming pool are a great place to unwind and you can stroll around the local area enjoying the market stalls and shops. Choose from a great selection of restaurants and quirky bars.
Santa Teresa is set well away and above the famous beaches of Rio (20-30 minutes to Ipanema), however it is the boho-chic area of the city, an area favoured by artists and musicians. It is often used by travellers returning to the city after previous stays in Ipanema or Copacabana.
