The Lake District - Bariloche
The Argentina Lake District is one of the most beloved travel destinations of South America and a mecca for those that enjoy a harmonious blend of spectacular scenery and outdoor pursuits. Trailing along the western fringe of the Andes, the spectacular snow-capped peaks, tumbling waterfalls and glacially formed lakes form an impressive alpine playground. This is a vast area well suited for independent exploration whether in a car, on foot, by horseback, mountain bike or boat.
The main town of Bariloche and the surrounding Nahuel Huapi region are one of Argentina's major outdoor recreational areas popular for trekking, boat trips, mountain-biking, sailing, horse riding, polo, fishing, white-water rafting, skiing (June-October) and golf. Visitors also flock here to depart on the renowned Andean ferry crossing to Puerto Montt in Chile, a scenic route across Lago Nahuel Huapi, Lago Frias and the emerald waters of Lago Todos Los Santos.
