Head to Puerto Madero, the up and coming waterfront area in Buenos Aires which occupies a significant area of the Rio de la Plata riverbank and is home to the Hotel Faena, famed for the raunchy Rojo Tango show.
Alternativley visit the San Telmo Sunday market which is set in the oldest barrio of Buenos Aires. The market takes place in the main public square, Plaza Dorrego, and with the districts colonial buildings, characterful cafes, tango milongas and antique shops it is a great way to while away a Sunday in the city.
A little more about Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires was founded in 1580 on the shores of the Rio de la Plata and today it is one of the continent's largest and most sophisticated cities. Famous for its' fantastic, mouth watering beef, delicious local wines and the sound of the sensuous tango drifting through the evening air throughout the city.
Puerto Madero to the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is a 865 acre tract of lowland which lies just a stone's throw outside the city. It is an important area for ecology and great for wildlife lovers who don't wish to spend too much time in the hustle and bustle of the big city! The Pampas, situated south of Buenos Aires and only a short drive of an hour or two offer the chance to experience the life of a Gaucho - the Argentinian cowboys! Home to enormous cattle ranches and elite polo schools, The Pampas provide opportunity to ride, play polo, embark upon a round of golf or the chance to just relax and appreciate the traditional lifestyles of these beautiful estancias set on vast fertile rolling plains.

When to go
Buenos Aires can be visited year round. Peak season in December and January sees temperatures soar, so we suggest a visit to the riverbank or to The Pampas to cool down. New Year can get incredibly busy in the city and availability can be limited so book early to avoid disappointment. Shortly after New Year the Dakar Rally starts from Mar del Plata, a lively time to be in the area, and can provide great inspiration for a route for your trip!
