The Sahara
One of the 3 great provinces of Libya, the Fezzan region of the Sahara Desert stretches from south of Ghadames covering Libya's southwest quarter. The Acacus Mountain area in one of the most spectacular which can be reached by a flight from Tripoli to Sebha, where you are met and driven south to explore the desert towns of Germa and Ghat, the lunar landscape of the Acacus with its numerous wadis and the hidden rock paintings and carvings dating back to prehistoric times when the region was a fertile savannah. You can also drive through an enormous sand sea, camp under the stars and swim in palm fringed lakes. A visit to this region should be considered as high adventure. It requires a great deal of walking over rough terrain. You are expected to be physically active and able to walk independently throughout some very full days of touring.
