From here you will take a side trip into the boundless expanse of the Russian plain to view picturesque Sergiev Posad, at the heart of Russian Orthodoxy, before travelling on to St. Petersburg by train.
The Tsarist capital of St Petersburg embraced the fashionable ideas of the French Enlightenment and the result is an astounding array of art, gems, furniture and silver housed in the most sumptuous of palatial settings. Among other glorious sites your visit will include the opulent State Rooms of the Winter Palace, the breathtaking Hermitage Museum with its treasures, the vast SS Peter and Paul Cathedral and Fortress, the famous Smolny Church and the iconic Church of the Spilled Blood.
