Guilin
Guilin is located in Southern China, relatively undiscovered town until a few years ago. However although tourism is starting to increase it still manages to exude charisma, mainly due to its beautiful vista’s.
Guilin's charm lies in its natural scenery. Limestone peaks rise up from a flat plain and their formation resembles droplets of water falling in slow motion into a dead-calm lake. Each is covered in thick vegetation while rivers meander slowly between them. Water wheels irrigate the fields and men fish with cormorants from bamboo rafts in the Li River.
Nearby are 800 year old terraces still farmed by the Zhuang tribe, who wear traditional costumes and live in their traditional houses. Another local tribe who inhabit the area are the Yao, or Long Hair, people, whose women grow their hair to the ground and can be seen combing it out by the mountain streams.
Guilin is an interesting place to visit on a China holiday, offering plenty for those who are looking to escape from the crowds including stunning panoramic landscapes and interesting cultural tribal groups.
