Steppes Schools and Plan International:

Steppes School and Plan International would like to offer you the opportunity to link with a school in China. The cost of the link from the date of booking to the date of travel will be free to your school with the end goal being that you will visit the school on your travels.

Plan is an international NGO (charity), working in child-centred community development in over 50 countries all over the world. They have the expertise and experience to help schools teach pupils about sustainable development, the interdependent nature of the globalised world and many other subjects which fit into the Citizenship, Global Dimension, English, Geography, History and ICT curriculum. Research demonstrates UK schools find it difficult to incorporate the global dimension in to their curriculum without the help of outside agencies like Plan, so they are always at the end of the telephone ready to help with any issues that arise from your link.

The PLAN programme is:

• Managed and facilitated by Plan, linking you with schools overseas we are already working with and have ease of communication with.
• Supported by link coordinators in each country (including your own coordinator in the UK), who work with their schools on joint curriculum project ideas, assistance with funding applications for reciprocal visits and setting the link up in the school (two days INSET per year).
• Set up to fit into the curriculum through a resource pack with lesson plans around three key global themes.
• An efficient way to link with schools in rural communities, which some UK schools find challenging.
• A chance to form an international link while complying with best practise in linking. This is done through partnership agreements and managing expectations, facilitated by development professionals.
• A way to develop pupils' personal development and wellbeing through providing realistic ways to learn about other cultures and a means to reflect on their own lives in comparison.
