Located at an altitude of 3,600m on the south-eastern edge of the Tibetan plateau in Yunnan province, an area which remains refreshingly unexplored - this cosy, boutique hotel offers a wonderful hideaway.

Gyalthang Dzong Hotel is a typical Tibetan building but with a unique architecture in the 'Tibetan lamasery' style. A lamasery is a monastery for lamas - Buddhist monks who are spiritually qualified to lead people towards enlightenment.

Set in a wide valley amongst alpine meadows and picturesque mountains, each of the 47 rooms and suites have been sympathetically decorated using colours, styles and fabrics traditional to Tibet.

There is a wealth of attractions in the area including Tiger Leaping Gorge, Sumtseling Monastery and numerous hot springs.
