Al Shahbandar
Dating back to the 17th century this Damascene family home has been converted into a small, comfortable hotel. Tucked away in the Christian quarter of the city on a pretty cobbled street the hotel is only recognisable by the salmon coloured walls and heavy wooden door which welcome guests into the citrus tree filled courtyard.
Blending tradition with luxury the ten rooms have been decorated in a Syrian style using local products including traditional brocade for the curtains, Damascene quilts for the beds and handmade tiles in the bathrooms. Additional features include an old stable, now converted into a gallery, restaurant and café.
