Tour Summary
The lure of Lebanon lies in its beautiful landscapes and the majesty of its monuments. Sidon is your first stop, with its walled medieval old city whose picturesque narrow alleyways and winding streets extend along a promontory into the sea between two castles. Via the ruins of the ancient port of Tyre, your journey leads you to the site of two Roman temples at Niha, on to the Umayyad town of Anjar and the Beqa'a Valley, famous for its wine. The highlight of any visit here, you will have time to explore the priceless legacy of Roman Baalbek, with its classical and later ruins including the magnificent Roman Temple of the Sun. The picturesque palace at Beit ed-Din prefaces a trip north to Jeita’s grottoes and the Crusader castle and Ottoman houses of Tripoli, before discovering Byblos’s Phoenician heritage. Return to Beirut and take the chance to soak up its Museum treasures, final proof of the historical economic importance of the region and its strategic position on the Mediterranean.
