A little more about Galle
Galle is a favourite for travellers wishing to gain an insight into the history and cultures of Sri Lanka. Located in the southern region of the country, it is full of magnificent sights and sounds that will forever be part of a Sri Lankan memory.
The main focal point for travellers to Galle is the amazing architectural Galle Fort. The fort was built in the 17th century and showcases an array of classic structures which allow a brief glimpse into Sri Lanka’s bygone era. It is positioned at the south of the city offering dramatic views of the glistening Indian Ocean from the enclosed walls. Due to its fascinating history it has been recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. The fort is still used today as part of a working community, populated with administrative offices and courts along with bustling streets stretching from Galle’s historic district.
Galle coupled with its close proximity to beautiful southern beaches of Thalpe and Unawatuna, draws travellers from all regions of the world. Accommodation ranges from shabby guest houses to small luxurious boutique hotels including Amangalla, Sun House and Kahanda Kanda and the coastal resorts including Amanwella.
