Karakorum Highway Holidays

Karakorum Highway, pakistan

The Karakorum Highway is a 500 mile metalled road starting near Islamabad and winding upwards through Chitral to Hunza and then across the 4,733 metre Khunjerab Pass to China.

Built by Pakistan Army engineers in association with the Chinese, it has been described as a marvel of civil engineering and even as ‘the Eighth Wonder of the World’. It has been completed for over 15 years and has been forced through some of the world’s toughest terrain. The road tends to follow the Indus valley and, from time to time, it is possible to identify parts of the old Silk Road where ancient rock drawings can still be seen, telling long forgotten travellers about the route ahead.
