A little more about Rajasthan
Located in the North West of India, Rajasthan is a colour infused region of India, from the deep yellow sandy desert to the intense terracotta palaces and forts, it is a compelling must see area for those travelling to India.

While much of India fell under the yoke of the Mogul Empire (1550- 1862), the princely states within what we now know as Rajasthan either fought off their Islamic oppressors or concluded treaties in order to retain their sovereignty. Today, this Hindu legacy is apparent in both the architecture and culture of the region.

Forts and palaces abound and, while many have been transformed into small heritage hotels and are run by their princely owners, there are also larger and better known alternatives, such as the beautiful Lake Palace Hotel in Udaipur and the Umaid Bhawan in Jodphur. As much of Rajasthan is desert, the vibrant colours of the local tribal people stand out against the pale background, providing a vivid and stark contrast.

Every November, just before the full moon, the small town of Pushkar plays host to one of India’s most famous religious festivals and cattle fairs, creating what is an unforgettable spectacle of life.

Rajasthan is one of the most visited areas of India due to its exceptional beauty and history. It is well worth including in a Indian holiday.

When to go
October and November are great months to visit Rajasthan as the region is alive with colour and festivals following the months of monsoon rain. The winter months of December and January offer significantly cooler temperatures, which may suit some of our travellers, but one should be aware that flying in the region may involve some delays due to the fog. February and March are stunning months to visit Rajasthan, with the weather getting much warmer and sitting out in the evening becomes the norm.
