Ahilya Fort

Ahilya Fort

Ahilya Fort is a beautiful heritage river side retreat built in the 18th century.  Within its huge walls you will find a lovely swimming pool and attractive organic kitchen garden. The cuisine is delicious offering a combiniation of light western lunches and an Indian dinner menu.  The owner, Prince Richard Holkar, is generally present, looking after his guests with interest.  The 14 rooms are all different, offering views of the gardens or courtyards of the fort or over the holy Narmada River below.  There is plenty to entertain you during your stay from sunset boat rides and picnic dinners on the nearby island, visits to the community textile and weaving centre or the local school.  Their excellent tailor will come to the fort to make any clothing you may require and historical sites nearby abound.
