A little more about Ladakh
In the far-flung reaches of Northern India lies Ladakh, one of the most remote and sparsely populated regions on earth. Bordered by Tibet, this fascinating, yet least known region in India has an almost moonlike terrain, surrounded by some of the greatest mountain ranges of the world.
Ladakh is the last refuge of pure Tibetan Buddhism and the sprawling old monasteries exude an atmosphere and smell which only comes with great age. It can be one of the most rewarding Himalayan trekking regions where you will find isolated, almost Italianesque villages, irrigated by the glaciers above but surrounded by desert. The capital, Leh, is a delight, and a day or so wandering the streets and visiting the Stok Palace located on the hillside above is essential.
It is now possible to explore this compellingly beautiful and remote region of India while staying in superb accommodation where previously it has barely existed. Accommodation is in beautifully converted, traditional Ladakhi homes in unspoilt villages, where you journey in comfort through the Indus Valley combining trekking, rafting, jeep safaris and visits to Monasteries.
When to go
June to September allows easier access by flight and road transfer into this high altitude area. At other times of the year weather may be a disrupting factor and temperatures will be significantly lower.
