Spiritual Cities of India

Ganga Aarti

Trip Highlights

  • Incorporate the main spiritual sites of India in one journey
  • Experience impressive and memorable religious ceremonies
  • Visit some of the most spectacular Hindu temple architecture in India

Trip Overview
The location of these pilgrimage sites, Varanasi and Haridwar on the river Ganges, Ayodhya, Mathura, Dwarka, Kumbha Mela and Kanchipuram are of great significance. Also known as tirathas or fords, they are sited on rivers or in mountain passes to represent crossing places between the physical and the spiritual worlds, or in places where Hindu gods are believed to have arrived on Earth. Arguably Kanchipuram is the most spectacular. As you approach along the Chennai road, on the north bank of the muddy Palar river, your first thrilling view is of the gopurams, or temple towers rising through the morning mist. This journey then combines Kanchipuram with a visit to Varanasi and Haridwar and other lesser known but no less impressive spiritual sites of India.
