Winding your way from Farakka, where the Hooghly splits from The Ganges, southwards to Calcutta, this is a charming river cruise through the little visited villages and towns of rural West Bengal. En route, undertake a varied programme of daily guided excursions by country boat, cyclo and on foot to palaces, temples and ruins of successive dynasties, a battle field tour of Plaissey where Clive’s victory changed the course of Indian history, as well as village visits where you are guaranteed a very warm welcome. Travelling by small ship provides an ever changing vista of rural bankside life, from farmers tending their fields and fishermen casting their nets, to bathers at the ghats.
