Sukapha was newly constructed in 2006 and offers the ideal way to explore India’s rivers in a far more comfortable and leisurely way than by road. Small but almost perfectly formed, she’s ‘homely’ rather than luxury, but any shortcomings are more than made up for by her charm and impeccable staff.

The public areas encompass the spacious saloon/ bar and dining room on the lower deck, which has full length opening glass doors on each side, and a large upper sundeck with comfortable shaded seating. This deck in effect acts as your open-air sitting room and is where most people can be found when not away from the boat on excursions or eating. The 12 twin-bedded cabins all have en-suite shower and W.C, air conditioning, with comfortable chairs by the picture windows for relaxing in privacy. They’re perfectly comfortable and functional for the limited time you’re likely to spend in your cabin.

The food on board is a mixture of Assamese (milder than most Indian cuisine) and continental and anyone who enjoys Indian food is in for a treat, however beware the waistline! The daily land-based excursions are very much optional but are one of the highlights of the trip. Throughout the voyage you’ll be accompanied by a knowledgeable and charismatic onboard guide.
