Central Bhutan
Central Bhutan offers those travellers who wish to explore its beauty an array of excitement. As it is seldom visited it contains much of its authentic charm.
The central region of Bhutan was largely inaccessible until the 1970’s, beforehand the only form of transport to and from the region was by foot or horseback. Times have changed and although it may not be as remote as it was it is still only accessed by the travellers looking for a true off the beaten track experience.
The region is accessed by travelling over the awe inspiring mountains and valleys, travel can take longer than in some of the western parts of the country but it is well worth the time. The road from Trongsa leads to the magnificent four valleys of Bumthang, a very mysterious area which yields stories of treasure hunters and is architecturally rich with fascinating monasteries and relics left by passing Guru’s.
The region’s best activity is hiking, as the mountains offer brilliant trekking paths which meander elegantly around the valleys showcasing what the region has to offer in all its glory. The landscape is separated by lovely forested scenes, which are considered to be the cultural heartland of this wonderful country and look like beautiful water colour paintings that have come alive.
A rich and varied biodiversity awaits travellers with an open mind waiting to explore the magnificent central region of Bhutan.
