A little more about Hue
Hue is an architectural delight situated in Central Eastern Vietnam; it is full of historic temples, tombs and pagodas, a truly remarkable place that was almost left to perish.
The history behind the near disappearance of Hue was down to the Nguyen dynasty, who were quite happy to let the historic remains crumble away. It wasn’t until in the 1990’s that the People’s Committee of Vietnam realised the importance of Hue and in 1993 its historic treasures were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and restoration work began to maintain it. Hue is a truly remarkable place and well worth the visit during a holiday to Vietnam.
Sitting at the mouth of the inappropriately named Perfume River, this former royal capital has a Citadel modelled on the Forbidden City in Beijing. A boat journey upstream allows those who visit it to explore the Valley of the Kings where many of the country's emperors are buried in elaborate tombs.
Hue is a historic gem, and for those interested in Vietnamese artefacts and artwork it is a must see. However there is more than meets the eye in the once bustling capital, including an amazing Imperial cuisine perfect for those with an interest in inspired cuisine.
When to go
