A little more about Hanoi and Halong Bay
The northeast of Vietnam holds two of Vietnam’s treasures, Hanoi the capital and Halong Bay, a sublime seascape of limestone pinnacles which protrude out of the water.
In the capital, Hanoi, large, classic colonial style buildings mix with a combination of Russian and Chinese architecture and the more traditional two storey dwellings and shops. It is a pretty city with trees and lakes and the old quarter is a photographer's delight.
Just three hours drive away from Hanoi is Halong Bay, where thousands of limestone islands jut out of the water giving rise to the legend of dragon’s teeth and what is also to be considered as geology gone wild. Halong Bay has been classified a World Heritage site, and travellers who visit it are captivated by the presence of the pinnacles; it is one of Vietnams true intriguing natural sights.
If Halong Bay doesn’t inspire those who visit it, the surrounding scenery is sure to; huge mountains which tower over one another create masterpiece panorama. This is prime hiking and trekking country, where paths meander through the wonderful ranges and create excitement around every corner.
Halong Bay rarely fails to inspire travellers; teamed with Hanoi it creates a truly beautiful region.
