Sally Walters was brought up in Thailand in the 1970's and became very aware of Vietnam. When Sally visited Vietnam she was struck by the ethos of the local people, their passion and the interest they had in their own history and culture.

Northern Vietnam has a much more Chinese feel with the Chinese style temples and fascinating Hanoi. Once you venture over the central point, Vietnam has a more iconic native feel with hundreds of bicycles, ladies in the traditional AO DAI and the warming street food on offer. Such a fascinating journey.

There are principally five major regions in Vietnam. The northern highlands, which form a ring around the second region, the Red River Delta, the Truongson Mountain range, the central coastal strip and finally the Mekong Delta. The country stretches over 1,800km in length, causing very different weather patterns from the north to the south.

With direct flights to Vietnam and its combination of culture, friendly people and beautiful landscapes makes a holiday to Vietnam an increasingly popular destination for all kinds of travellers. The French influence is very clear to see both in the food and the architecture which add a distinctive style to this remarkable country.

The coastal area provides to a fascinating collection of sites which include Khmer temples, beautifully preserved old Chinese towns, the myriad of waterways which make up the Mekong Delta, the dragon's teeth in Halong Bay and the French colonial splendour of Hanoi.

Slightly too much emphasis can sometimes be placed on visiting the better known battlefields, although a few places, such as the extraordinary tunnel complex at Cu Chi, clearly demonstrate the tenacity of the people. In the north and inland, there are some remote tribal areas to be found for those willing to take the time to trek up into the hills.

There are so many options for your holiday to Vietnam from national parks, trips by boat or trekking in the hills of the north are just the a few ideas, Vietnam has endless travel potential.
