Japan - Textiles and Photography Tour with Gina Corrigan

Geishas, Japan

The tour to Japan’s main island of Honshu was researched by Gina Corrigan in 2009. Gina decided to concentrate on Tokyo and Kyoto with short visits into the countryside. The tour concentrates on textile processes related to the national dress, the kimono. However the most spectacular Buddhist and Shinto temples and gardens are included. There is an adventurous trip to the Tango Peninsula, as Gina was told by an artist, she met at a prestigious store in Tokyo about an interesting fibre used in this area and a museum in Kyoto emphasised silk production in Tango.

Throughout the tour visits will be made to a number of crafts persons and there will be an opportunity to buy Japanese textiles and products. Built into the programme is a contrast between modern and traditional architecture. This will certainly give you further inspiration for your own textile and art work.
