The Land of the Rising Sun conjures up images of fascinating kimono clad geisha’s, towering sky scrapers, ancient temples and high-speed bullet trains. Japan is an ultra modern country with an amazing culture and history which dates back many centuries. Cities like Kyoto and Nara allow travellers a small insight to the bygone eras through their many temples, museums and shrines of their rich and varied artistic inheritance.

Its other outstanding highlight is the scenery, from the picturesque Japanese Alps where small, once isolated, villages offer perfect conditions for trekking, to the awe inspiring Mount Fuji, and the turquoise seas and magnificent coral reefs of the Pacific island of Okinawa. Hokkaido, an island in the north, is home to some of the country’s indigenous people and is an important agricultural centre.
