Java
The mystical area of central Java is renowned for its temples, markets and natural landscape and is considered to be the central hub for the whole of the Indonesian islands.
At its heart lies Borobudur, the greatest Buddhist temple in south East Asia, and one of the main attractions of this area. It is best viewed during a majestic sunrise, as the sun slowly rises up over the surrounding hills glistening and lighting up the beautiful surrounding scenery. Amanjiwo is located close to Borobudur and is built in a natural amphitheatre and offers wonderful views of the temple at dusk and dawn.
The range of scenery within Java is interesting and volatile, there are a string of volcanoes that are dotted around the island and when active light up the region like blazing rubies. Java also has a number of beautiful beaches, its premier coastal resort, Pangandaran, is full of the type of luxury accommodation expected in the area.
Traditional dance, music and puppet shows are to be found everywhere; an additional highlight is Yogjakarta, an important centre for contemporary art, silverware, batik and Indonesian furniture.
From the magnificent national parks including Purwo, the metropolis of Jakarta, the unpredictable volcanoes, to the wonderful people and their cultures Java really does deserve the admiration and sublime wonderment it has received from travellers.
