Trip Summary

This expeditionary voyage breaks new ground in combining exploration of remote eastern Borneo with time on the neighbouring Indonesian island of Sulawesi, before finishing on Bali. In many ways this is a voyage of two quite distinct parts, the first being focused on Borneo’s extraordinary flora and fauna and the chance to see some of its impressive wildlife; and the second on Sulawesi’s distinct culture, centred upon the area of Tana Toraja. Often referred to as the "Land of the Heavenly Kings", Tana Toraja is known for its majestic panoramas, captivating villages and The Torajas dramatic ceremonies. The Torajas have a unique culture, which they continue to practice today, based on animistic beliefs and are renowned for their grand burial ceremonies on cliffs or hanging graves.
