The Aegean Coast Holidays
The Aegean Coast has the highest concentration of ancient sites in Turkey - it's hard to find a city younger than 3000 years old along this beautiful coastline. Ephesus is one of the best preserved Roman classical cites and still exhibits much of its former glory. Ancient Ephesus was a great trading city and was famed for the Temple of Artemis (completed around 550 BC), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Slightly less visited but no less impressive are the ancient cities of Ionia - Priene, Miletus & Didyma. Further inland you can bathe in the calcium rich waters of Pumakkale & visit the Roman spa town of Hierapolis. This coastline is also home to some of the countries prettiest fishing villages. Assos, an ancient Aeolian city, set amidst the ruins of the Temple of Athena, clings to a rocky hillside above the charming fishing village of Behramkale.
