Goldeneye
The former estate of James Bond author, Ian Fleming, has been developed into one of Jamaica’s most luxurious and exclusive coastal resorts. A series of private villas and cottages line the coast bordering a lagoon, tucked away in the tropical gardens.
The four original villas are spacious, beautifully decorated and kitted out with local artwork. They each have private gardens, terraces or verandahs overlooking the sea or the lagoon and have either an outside bath or shower. Each villa also has a kitchen that will be stocked with snacks and drinks.
The new one and two bedroom beach cottages can accommodate up to six people. The design mixes modern chic with classic Caribbean touches such as large jalousies that really open up the rooms to the sea breeze. Each of these cottages also features a private outdoor shower.
The Fleming Villa is the author’s original house. Each of the three bedrooms and two guest cottages are decorated in a Balinese style and sleep up to ten people in total. The private living room has a state of the art music system where you can explore the CD library. The garage has been converted into an entertainment area with a private bar, the largest sofa you can imagine and a personal cinema in which you can watch the famous Bond movies. Fleming’s bedroom and living room look out through huge picture windows at the sunken garden where you can dine al fresco. There is a private pool and a flight of steps leads to your own secluded private beach where you may wish to BBQ. The kitchen and bar are well stocked with drinks and snacks. Each room has an outside shower and the outside bathroom in the main villa is set in its very own private garden with shower and huge bathtub. Bond fanatics will appreciate sitting at the very desk where Fleming penned many of his 007 novels.
If you can drag yourself away from your beautiful lodging, then there are plenty of activities on offer at Goldeneye, including swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, jet-skiing, wave running, wind surfing, sailing, deep sea fishing, birding, nature walks, scuba diving, horse-back riding and tennis. You can visit Firefly, Noel Coward’s property among plenty of other excursions around the island.
