Akwadup Lodge
Akwadup Lodge is a secluded hideaway on the private island of Achutupu in the San Blas Archipelago.
A private speedboat transfers guests from Mamitupu or Achutupu across tranquil waters to Akwadup Lodge set on a beach fringed with tall coconut palms. Reputedly one of the most comfortable resorts in the Kuna Yala Comarca, accommodation comprises 7 rustic cabins stilted above shallow waters in the Caribbean Sea and connected to the beach by a simple boardwalk.
Each thatched wooden cabin is powered by solar panels providing energy for ceiling fans and running water, while simple wood and cane furnishings provide comfort. A hammock is strung on each private terrace which overlooks the sea, a picturesque view only interrupted by the occassional Kuna fisherman paddling peacefully by in a dugout canoe. Besides accommodation, Akwadup Lodge also offers a choice of fresh seafood in the resort restaurant.
Achutupu Island is home to a friendly population of Kuna Indians eager to share their unique culture with visitors to their village. Numerous breaking reefs surround the island while inland the virgin rainforest beckons those curious to explore its tropical vegetation and glimpse a wide variety of birds that frequent the island.
