Melia Panama Canal
Melia Panama Canal is an upscale resort just a short drive from the bustle of Colon, at the tip of a peaceful peninsula surrounded on three sides by the tranquil waters of Gatun Lake.
The resort is set beyond dense rainforest in a small clearing that offers a gateway to San Lorenzo National Park. The terracotta-coloured hotel exterior gives way to 285 air-conditioned guest rooms including a floor dedicated to 30 Royal Service rooms with a butler, complimentary internet and access to an exclusive lounge. All rooms are reasonably spacious with simple décor, red hardwood furnishings and an ample sized bathroom with bath tub and shower facility.
Buffet-style breakfasts and an a la carte menu are served in a casual setting at Restaurant Miraflores, while the Darien Restaurant offers a steakhouse option at dinner. A good selection of aperitifs and cocktails are available in the Piano Bar, often accompanied by live music.
Melia Panama Canal provides extensive facilities to keep guests entertained, including an enormous outdoor pool with three cascading water levels and swim-up bar, a children’s splash pool, daily fitness classes, gym, and tennis, beach volleyball and basketball courts. A number of nature trails also await exploration nearby or for those more interested waterborne activities such as kayak excursions into Gatun Lake can be organised. A children’s club is available to younger guests, and for adults; body treatments including ‘chocotherapy’ and massage provide relaxation. In addition, the resort offers a small boutique, cigar shop and a casino.
