Azuero Peninsula

Azuero Peninsular

The Azuero Peninsula is a remote agricultural region at the heart of Panama's folklore. Isolated from modern Panama, the Azuero Peninsula is frozen in an idyllic past of charm and tradition. Perhaps best known for its festivals, the most popular attractions are Festival Corpus Christi in La Villa de Los Santos and the colourful annual carnival which takes place nationally in February, but is most exuberant in Los Santos. Local people can be found wearing beautiful traditional clothing, namely polleras. A number of handicrafts and ceramic work local to the area can be found here, and even the national drink, Seco made from sugar cane is produced in the region.

The Azuero Peninsula also boasts some of the most beautiful and pristine Pacific beaches rarely visited. Playa Venado is a fantastic surfing beach, and there are a number of uninhabited islands a short boat ride away, that offer excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities.
