San Juan del Sur Holidays
Admired for it’s tumbling Pacific surf and crescent shaped bay of golden sand dunes, this former fishing hamlet has undergone something of a renaissance. Having managed to retain its easy-going charm, San Juan del Sur is consistently popular with surfers and those seeking relatively peaceful beaches without all the unnecessary tourist developments attached.
Aside from surfing and dozing in hammocks, the Pacific Ocean hosts allsorts of sea based activities from sailing to deep sea fishing, while the backdrop of forested peaks can be explored by foot or on horseback. Furthermore, the coast is lined with many deserted beaches worthy of a visit, including Playa Marsella and Playa El Coco. The sweeping cove and tropical dry forest of Playa La Flor, situated just beyond Playa El Coco, is protected by a wildlife refuge. Between August and November, the beach is swarmed by thousands of Olive Ridley turtles who brave the shores to lay eggs, while the northern tip is besieged at sunset by a migration of hermit crabs.
From San Juan del Sur, journey south to the border post at Peñas Blancas and visit the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica.
