Hacienda Santa Rosa
This former nobleman’s estate became the first of Yucatan’s haciendas to receive sympathetic restoration and be transformed into a luxury boutique hotel. Ornate botanical gardens and uniquely sculptured columns provide a glimpse into Hacienda Santa Rosa’s original incarnation as a key henequen plantation during the 19th century.
The vibrant ochre and blue façade of Hacienda Santa Rosa's main house is reminiscent of belle époque Mexicana, providing access to 11 colonial-style guest rooms and suites. All accommodation is lavishly furnished with tropical hardwood, wrought iron beds and enormous bathrooms with tall heavy wooden shutters. In addition, a unique Mayan-style, thatched-roof cottage is also available with a king-sized bed suspended from the ceiling like a hammock.
This XIX century plantation has many endearing features. The beautiful tropical gardens give way to a small orchard and a charming little chapel built in 1909. Most unique is the deep pool that flows underneath the main hacienda where guests can swim through the arches and explore the caves below. Hacienda Santa Rosa also offers an elongated pool, excellent restaurant, and spa facilities. Mountain bikes are available for local exploration or for a day trip consider a visit to the Mayan ruins of Oxkintok and Uxmal or to the extraordinary Calcehtok Caves.
