Hacienda San Jose Cholul
The powder blue hues of Hacienda San José Cholul emerge subtly through the Secret Garden-like landscape of this historical sisal plantation located just beyond Tixkokob, in the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Sympathetically restored to recover many architectural characteristics of its 18th century prosperity, Hacienda San Jose Cholul provides 15 air conditioned rooms and suites. All rooms are beautifully furnished with tropical hardwood, and feature tiled floors with high ceilings exposing the original rafters and beams. All guest rooms provide enormous bathrooms with large carved wooden doors opening out onto a private balcony or terrace; many also offer a private plunge pool. A mature ceiba tree rising up through the floor and ceiling of one guestroom is a particularly charming feature.
The attractive garden view restaurant is located in the old factory building where guests can dine on a variety of locally inspired dishes and international cuisine. A pool surrounded by tropical vegetation offers cool refreshment and there is a small gym, and an outdoor spa cabin with Jacuzzi.
For those wishing to explore the local area, Hacienda San José Cholul is within reach of Chichén Itza and the colonial cities of Merida and Izamal.
