Camino Real Oaxaca
Formerly the Santa Catalina Convent, Camino Real Oaxaca is a magnificent monument to the original 16th century building set in the heart of this charming colonial city.
The romance of this hotel is an attraction in itself. Tiled corridors framed with tall arches lead out onto numerous courtyards adorned with colourful blooms. One courtyard in particular features the original Los Lavaderos (the laundry), a large stone carved basin where the Dominican sisters of the convent used to wash their clothes. Accommodation comprises air-conditioned rooms and suites, all beautifully decorated with colourful textiles hand-loomed locally and traditional Mexican furnishings. Heavy wooden shutters open out onto historical streets or quiet patios and some rooms benefit from a private terrace or balcony.
Guests can savour an excellent choice of local and international cuisine at the formal restaurant ‘El Refectorio’ or dine al fresco in the courtyard. Camino Real Oaxaca also houses a bar ‘Los Novivios’ and there is a delightful outdoor pool and hot tub.
