Nitun Eco Lodge

Nitun Lodge

Nitun Eco-lodge is tucked away amongst secondary forest on a steep hill overlooking Lake Peten Itza, 1 hour from Tikal.

A scenic 20 minute boat ride across the lake from Flores offers the most pleasing route to the lodge and you can expect a genuine warm welcome from your hosts Bernie & Lorena when you arrive. This intimate lodge features just 4 casitas, each blending harmoniously into a verdant hillside. All casitas were constructed in a traditional Colojche style using wood, rock and sand topped with a palm-thatch roof. A hammock is strung from the thatched ceiling, hovering just above king or queen-size beds covered with an attractive cotton bedspread hand woven by Mayan artisans. Rooms are personalised with original paintings and a smattering of hand carved furnishings. Each private stone-clad bathroom features a walk-in shower; only the Hummingbird suite offers a bath tub.

The main lodge is a spectacular tree house-like structure perched on stilts at the core of the reserve. Set over two levels, the lodge comprises of a restaurant on the lower level and a bar with lounge area on the upper. Meals are served home-style and plentiful and the bar offers comfortable repose against the busy chatter of tropical birds.

Nitun Eco Lodge is a pioneer in ecology and conservation in Guatemala. The lodges experienced guides will teach you the medicinal properties of the forest and take you on hikes through the reserve to glimpse scarlet macaws and hummingbirds.
