La Lancha
Immersed in forest sweeping down a steep hillside towards the shores of Lake Peten Itza, La Lancha is the epitome of elegance and sophistication.
A further addition to Francis Ford Coppola’s portfolio of classy exotic retreats, La Lancha hosts a collection of 10 rustic casitas dotted throughout the resort. Panoramic views of Lake Peten Itza are appreciated from the expansive deck area adjoining each of the four lakeside casitas. These casitas are slightly larger than their rainforest counterparts, comprising of a master bedroom, lounge area with sofa beds and an ample bathroom with enormous soaking tub and walk-in shower unit. Rainforest casitas have partial views of the lake in a more secluded location, ideal for those seeking privacy. All casitas are accentuated with a blend of custom-made Balinese and Guatemalan furnishings including queen-size beds, ornate mahogany or bamboo panelled wardrobes and a writing desk. Bold hand-woven Guatemalan textiles enrich the ivory décor with scatter rugs and elaborate bedspreads. Although most accommodations are without air-conditioning, the design of these casitas allows good ventilation with ceiling fans offering cool refreshment.
The main lodge houses an excellent restaurant serving traditional Guatemalan cuisine, and an attractive courtyard offers a tranquil setting for sipping cocktails and local rum. Don’t be surprised if the peace is disturbed by a local family of howler monkeys who frequently visit the lodge to introduce themselves! The beautiful tiered pool, bordered by a smattering of comfy recliners, overlooks Lake Peten Itza.
For those unable to resist the tranquil waters of Lake Peten Itza, canoes and kayaks offer the best way to explore the shorelines and guests can embark on a series of wildlife focused activities in the surrounding forest.
