Bambu Hotel & Restaurant

View of Bambu

Bambu Hotel & Restaurant is perched idyllically on the Santiago Atitlan shores of Lake Atitlan, amid wispy bamboo groves and beautifully tended gardens.

Set just beyond its own private beach and pier, guests can enjoy this scene of tranquilly more so arriving by lancha from the docks at Panajachel. A series of thatch roof cabanas and bungalows are scattered throughout the gardens and towards the shore for the most picture-perfect views of Lake Atitlan. The construction of each rustic cabana incorporates techniques and materials used by the Tz’utujil Indians of Santiago Atitlan, to blend seamlessly into the local environment. Wooden beams hover above ceramic tiled floors while the rich Guatemalan textiles and spicy décor infuse colour and warmth to each twin, double or triple room.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the hotel restaurant which offers more sublime views of the lake through large picture windows. The restaurant specialises in Spanish nouvelle cuisine alongside a selection of international favourites prepared using vegetables organically grown in the hotel gardens. After dinner guests can retire to the cosy bar area, fitted with plump sofas encircling a large fireplace.

The large freeform pool and sun terrace is as equally inviting as a swim in the serene waters of Lake Atitlan, situated just beyond a narrow stretch of beach. Notably famous for its worship of Maximon, a visit into the fascinating town of Santiago Atitlan reveals many treasures and is a photographer delight.
